    ITALIAN FRIDAYS #2

    ITALIAN LANGUAGE

Hello all, remember that time I said I was going to help you expand your knowledge of Italy, country, history and the language? I know it was nearly 2 years ago but guess what? It’s baaaack!!

I have been learning Italian for over two years, then quit classes to learn online with apps and reference books while still enjoying it.

In this post, I am going to introduce you to some of my favourite sites that help you with learning Italian. whether it be an application on your mobile phone or a website, they have all come in handy over the last few years

    APP/SITES FOR YOUR PHONE

These are all the applications (app) that I used over the last year. My personal favourite is Busuu and Google Translate. As they all have very good software , I recommend you try them all first before you choose your own favourite.

Please Note: Obviously there are many more apps on IOS and Android Store but I recommend these apps myself from first hand experience using them. Also this post is 100% NOT sponsored or paid for.

My cousin went to Rome – why I’m jealous

A few months ago I found out my favourite cousin went to Rome. I’m going to tell you why I got jealous & what I plan to do to change it. It’s not all bad, honest!

When I found out that my cousin (unnamed) went to Rome, I got excited and started sending her cool phases in Italian that I thought would be useful. I thought she would tell me all about the tourist attractions and where to or not go!

Although she was polite when we spoke next she didn’t tell me anything about her travels… I started to get jealous. Why couldn’t I go instead? I’m the one who has been learning Italian right? shouldn’t I go? (damn expired not-used passport!).

This is when I realised that everyone around me is doing whatever they like! Whether it be children, marriage, moving in together or just travelling the world. And I am stuck in a rut where I haven’t done anything spectacular in, well, EVER.

I started to think to myself… what is on MY bucket list? what do I want to do with my life? Why have I never been travelling? I finally came up with ideas which I thought about before

let me know what your plans are for the next 10 more years …also can you recommend some interesting places in Italy & Sicily to write about – not the usual: Veneto, Florenza, Napoli o Roma!

    Introduction to ITALIAN FRIDAYS

    Hello All,

This is the first post to do with Italy.

I first encountered the country Italy while researching about the Roman Era as a child. As I was watching a few documentaries based on the Roman era and glancing through books created by Mary Beard when I saw a program about Italian food and culture called “Italy Unpacked”. I was mesmerised by the content but unhappy I did not know more about the country and language, to understand it more.

So this idea came about months after I finished watching the TV series.

I am going to do a series of posts for everyone. I want to take both you, as a reader, and me, as a writer, on a journey through various different things to do with Italy – both it’s history and culture. These posts will be dedicated to various topics.

The main topics I want to include in my project are:

    CULTURE // FAMOUS CITIES // FOOD & DRINK // HISTORY // LANGUAGE // ROMANS

I will always add any relevant links below (for more information):

Mafia, Murder and drugs; all in one book?

This book caught my eye when it came up on my bulk emails (linked to up and coming authors & review ebook copies) as an advertisement. So I grabbed it before it disappeared. This book is a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It took me just under 24 hours to completely finish this as it was so entertaining.

The man character is a kick-ass woman called Maggie Black, who is incredible. Her partner in this book and part-time lover is Leon. I feel both have an interesting backstory which propelled the story on well.

The story takes place mainly in Venice, Italy and I loved the casual references to places within the city. The story powers on easily and quickly as we are introduced to various characters, each with their own agenda.

This book basically is about a spy who is trying to stop a meeting and two groups becoming partners across Europe. The mafia is involved via the character Carlo Rossi and his family vs the other Italian family and mafia enemy the Martinis.

The killer in the murders through the story is revealed just as I figured out who it could be. The suspense was high and clever to read. I enjoyed hearing the ending of this book.

I would recommend this book, as it is an enjoyable quick read. I will go on to read more about the main character in new books, as this was the first in the series which I highly recommend reading.
